We are a Venture Capital Fund manager focused on Atlantic Canada. We currently manage Venture Newfoundland and Labrador LP that invests in seed stage companies.

We started Pelorus Venture in 2015 because we believe in building the Atlantic Canadian eco-system. We partner early. We strive to be authentic and transparent in all our communication. We mentor companies, help them commercialize and grow while providing venture returns for the investors. We bring an experienced voice to venture capital. We work with founders who disrupt and who continue to develop their bold ideas. We strive to create an aligned relationship between investor and entrepreneur.
About the Fund
Venture Newfoundland and Labrador LP is a private venture capital fund created by Pelorus, the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, BDC Capital Inc. and angel investors. The goal of the Fund is to invest in and partner with entrpreneurs with innovative technologies, to help commercialize their product and services and grow their companies while providing venture returns for the investors.

SEQUENCE BIO RAISES $3 MILLION USD SEED FINANCING LED BY DCVC

Canadian data-driven biotechnology company Sequence Bio announced the closing of a US $3 million series seed financing round led by Data Collective (DCVC), a leading venture capital firm based in Silicon Valley. DCVC was joined in the financing by existing investors Killick Capital, Venture NL and Klister Credit Corp.

Propel ICT, Atlantic Canada’s startup accelerator, today announced that Newfoundland and Labrador companies completing its Build accelerator program are now eligible for up to $250,000 in investment funding from Pelorus Venture Capital Limited, the manager of Venture Newfoundland and Labrador. The funding is offered as an equity investment.

MEET THE TEAM
Our team has worked together in early stage seed investment for over nine years. We started Pelorus Venture in 2015 to bring another voice to the Atlantic Canadian venture capital. We’ve worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs and have mentored founders alongside Propel ICT, Launch36, Planet Hatch, The StartUp Zone and Volta Labs. We are active across Newfoundland & Labrador and provide mentorship and support to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island ecosystems. We work with leaders in the tech sector while we grow partnership opportunities and recruit private investors. With an extensive background in finance and operations management we continue to build a world class team to further expand across the region ultimately leading to more deals and better investments for bold entrepreneurs.
Chris is highly active in the Atlantic Canadian eco-system. With 10 years at Growthworks and deep finance and accounting background Chris has mentored companies alongside regional accelerators and local incubators across all four provinces. Chris actively serves on seven boards for his portfolio companies three of which are in NL.

Peter is based out of Fredericton NB and is President of Growthworks Atlantic. He is an active mentor in the New Brunswick ecosystem as well as Propel ICT and Futurpreneur. Peter’s background in finance, corporate development and Ops roles with public companies in US and Canada.

Derek Lew has advised, started and invested in technology companies for over 20 years. He is President & CEO of venture capital fund manager GrowthWorks Capital Ltd., and is a Partner with Initio Group, a Vancouver, BC-based early-stage angel investment firm. He is Chair of the British Columbia Innovation Council, which is mandated to accelerate technology commercialization.
